Guild Wars 2 Overview and Recent Content

Guild Wars 2 is the upcoming sequel to Guild Wars. Currently in development at ArenaNet, Guild Wars 2 will offer the same free to play model as the original game series while introducing a host of graphical and mechanics upgrades.

Guild Wars players will find only their character names and achievements carry over, as everything else is planned to be completely new. Where characters could only move with mouse clicks, now there will be a full range of motion in 3-D for each character, destructible environments, a mentoring system to let higher and lower level players join forces, and additional layers to PvP.

The Mists, a new area, will offer large-scale world versus world battles in addition to the much-loved solo or guild versus guild PvP. PvP and RP characters will no longer be distinguished from each other, and the level cap will be higher than the original game's 20.

Notably, the land of Tyria itself will undergo shifts in terrain and structure following large-scale destruction vital to the game's plot. The plot is set 250 years after the Eye of the North expansion, and concerns the awakening of dragons long believed to have been defeated and rendered powerless in slumber. Their awakening not only causes panic but flooding and massive destruction as others rise up to try and stop this ancient force. A release date is yet to be announced.

Wei

Cao Cao

A brilliant military strategist and feared presence on the battlefield. The leader of Wei surrounds himself with many capable officers. He has no qualms with making choices some would consider cruel in order to achieve his ambitions.

                                                                 

Cao Pi

The son of Cao Cao is known for his pride and lust for power. Some would say the extent of his ambition surpasses even his father’s. Although a loyal son, there is nothing Cao Pi would not do to exceed his father’s legend.

Cao Ren

One of Cao Cao’s many cousins. He firmly believes Cao Cao is the only man capable of uniting the land and bringing peace and order to all of China. He is regarded as the shield of Wei and is regarded for his defensive strategies.

Dian Wei

Nicknamed the “Coming Evil,” Dian Wei is Cao Cao’s personal bodyguard. Famed for his incredible strength, he possesses a massive axe and wields it with a kind of fluidity few would consider possible.

Pang De

A brave and seasoned veteran of war, Pang De has taken part in many battles over the years and earned the respect of even his enemies. He is traditional, principled, and single-minded soldier on the field of combat.

Sima Yi

A duplicitous advisor to Cao Cao, the strategist Sima Yi considers himself a rival to his Shu and Wu counterparts, Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu. Secretly, he desires to rule the land himself and will exploit every opportunity to win Cao Cao’s favor.

Xiahou Dun

The fiery general, Xiahou Dun, is Cao Cao’s closest confidant and cousin. Although relatively focused and disciplined, he is known to lose his temper when provoked in battle. His rival is Guan Yu of the Kingdom of Shu.

Xiahou Yuan

Cousin to both Dun and Cao Cao, the mighty Xiahou Yuan is a talented general of the Wei and a master of the bow. He lacks the refinement of his older cousins but shares their skill in battle, rampaging through waves of enemies.

Xu Huang

A formidable warrior of the Wei who constantly strives toward self improvement. He has dedicated his life to the virtues of strength, justice, and chivalry. Although on opposing sides, Xu Huang and Guan Yu remain friends.

Xu Zhu

This gentle giant loves nothing more than to feast and serve his lord. The simple minded Xu Zhu is kind and caring by nature, but is regarded as the “Crazy Tiger” on the field of battle.

Zhang He

An eccentric senior officer of the Wei armies, Zhang He is fascinated with the beauty and grace of battle. He is held in high regard by the strategist Sima Yi, and enjoys dancing and the theatrical arts.

Zhang Liao

A fierce warrior and respected general of Wei, Zhang Liao once served under Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu before his capture at the hands of Cao Cao’s forces. He is widely known for his courage and tenacity in battle.

Zhen Ji

The alluring but cold-hearted wife of Cao Pi comes from noble heritage and a spoiled upbringing. Her alluring presence and lethal fighting skills make for a dangerous combination.
